New Delhi, August 4, 2025 – Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has officially launched its VF 6 electric SUV in India, marking a significant milestone in the company’s global expansion strategy. Unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year, the VF 6 is one of two models, alongside the VF 7, chosen to spearhead VinFast’s entry into the promising Indian EV market. With its sleek design, advanced features, and competitive pricing, the VF 6 aims to capture the attention of Indian consumers in the bustling midsize electric SUV segment.

A Bold Entry into India’s EV Landscape
VinFast’s debut in India comes with high ambitions, backed by a USD 2 billion investment in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, which began production in July 2025. The VF 6, a B-segment electric SUV, is locally assembled to ensure competitive pricing by minimizing import duties. Priced at approximately ₹25 lakh (ex-showroom), the VF 6 is positioned to rival established players like the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, and Mahindra BE 6.
The launch event, held in New Delhi, highlighted VinFast’s commitment to sustainable mobility. Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, stated, “The VF 6 is a game-changer for India, blending premium quality, cutting-edge technology, and affordability to meet the electrification needs of Indian consumers.” The company has also opened pre-bookings for the VF 6 at a refundable amount of ₹21,000 through its official website, VinFastAuto.in, and its growing network of dealerships.

Designed in collaboration with Torino Design, the VF 6 boasts a distinctive and modern aesthetic inspired by the “The Duality in Nature” philosophy. Its exterior features sleek LED DRLs forming a signature V-shaped motif, vertically stacked triangular projector headlights, and a closed-off grille, giving it a futuristic yet approachable look. The compact SUV measures 4,238 mm in length, 1,820 mm in width, and 1,594 mm in height, with a 2,730 mm wheelbase and 190 mm ground clearance tailored for Indian roads. The VF 6 rides on 18-inch alloy wheels, balancing style and practicality for urban and semi-urban driving.
Inside, the VF 6 embraces minimalism with a tech-centric cabin. A 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system takes center stage, angled toward the driver and supporting wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, OTA updates, and the unique “what3words” navigation system. Notably, the VF 6 forgoes a traditional instrument cluster, instead offering a head-up display (HUD) to relay critical driving information. The cabin features vegan leather upholstery, a dual-tone black and brown theme, and soft-touch materials, creating a premium ambiance. A fixed panoramic glass roof adds an airy feel, though it lacks a sunshade, which may be a drawback in India’s hot climate.
Key features include:
- Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with adaptive cruise control, lane centering, blind spot detection, and emergency braking
- 7 airbags for enhanced safety
- Ventilated front seats and dual-zone climate control
- 360-degree camera
- 423-litre boot space with a flat loading lip
Performance and Range: Tailored for Efficiency
The VF 6 is powered by a 59.6 kWh battery pack, paired with a single front-wheel-drive electric motor. It is available in two variants: Eco and Plus. The Eco variant delivers 174 hp and 250 Nm of torque, while the Plus variant ups the ante with 201 hp and 310 Nm. VinFast claims a WLTP range of up to 399 km for the Eco variant and 380 km for the Plus, though Indian-specific ARAI figures are yet to be confirmed. The SUV supports DC fast charging via a CCS2 port, achieving a 10-70% charge in approximately 25 minutes, alongside AC charging at up to 7.2 kW.
The VF 6 offers three drive modes—Eco, Normal, and Sport—with the Plus variant delivering spirited performance, though some torque steer may be noticeable under hard acceleration. Its raised ride height and tuned suspension ensure it handles India’s diverse road conditions with ease.
Pricing and Market Positioning
Priced at around ₹25 lakh, the VF 6 is competitively positioned in India’s midsize EV segment. Its pricing undercuts some rivals like the MG ZS EV while offering a feature set comparable to premium offerings. VinFast’s unique battery subscription model, which may be introduced in India, could further lower the upfront cost, though traditional purchase options are also expected. The company’s aggressive expansion includes plans for 35 dealerships across 27 cities by the end of 2025, with showrooms already operational in Surat, Gujarat, and Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
A Promising Start for VinFast in India
With its stylish design, tech-heavy interior, and competitive pricing, the VinFast VF 6 is poised to make a strong impression in India’s rapidly growing EV market. Its local production and extensive dealership network signal VinFast’s long-term commitment to the region. However, the brand faces stiff competition from established players and will need to build trust in a market unfamiliar with its name. As Mr. Ashwin Ashok Patil, Deputy CEO of Sales & Marketing at VinFast India, noted, “The VF 6 is designed to offer a seamless and enjoyable electric mobility experience, tailored to India’s unique needs.”
The VF 6 is now available for test drives at select VinFast dealerships, with deliveries expected to commence in September 2025. For those seeking a fresh, feature-packed electric SUV, the VF 6 presents a compelling case. What are your thoughts on VinFast’s entry into India? Let us know in the comments
